Pastime with good company

Mit Rahmentrommel, Gambe und Laute an unserer Seite begeben wir uns nach England zur Zeit von John Dowland, William Byrd und co. Auch von King Henry VIII persönlich sind Kompositionen erhalten, sein „Pastime with good company“ verleiht diesem Programm seinen Titel. Dowlands „Flow my tears“ und Playford´s „English Dancing Master“ treffen aufeinander und beschreiben die große Vielfalt des Englischen Repertoires.

Frame drum, Viola da Gamba and the lute join us on our journey to England, where we find John Dowland and William Byrd among others at the peak of creation. Even King Henry VIII published his own compositions, „Pastime with good company“ – which this program is named after being one of them. Dowland’s “Flow my tears“ and Playford’s “English Dancing Master“ contrast each other, showing the diversity of the early English repertory.
